4 Forms of Honey and Their Benefits

Honey is not only rich in varieties, but also comes in different forms. In general, there are four forms of honey that you can find in the market: comb, liquid, creamed, and chunk honey. Each of them has different characteristics and contents. The benefits are also slightly different. You can choose which one that fits your needs. Liquid honey is the most popular one. This type of honey has more to offer than just health benefits. It is also widely used in culinary world due to its wonderful taste and texture. In the other hand, chunk honey may give you more health benefits since it has richer contents.

Bee pollen is a good energy enhancer, immunity system booster and skin soother. Bee propolis contains hundreds of active compounds that can fight cancer. It is also used to treat second-degree burns, prevent dental cavities, eliminate parasites and as anti-microbial agent.

  • Comb honey is raw pure honey sections taken straight from the hive without any further processing. It still contains pieces of the hexagonal-shaped beeswax cells of the honeycomb. You can eat comb honey just like a chewy candy. This is the most natural honey you can buy. Due to its purity level, this form of honey usually has a relatively higher price tag.
  • Liquid honey is the most popular form of honey and can be found everywhere in the world. It has been filtered to remove fine particles, pollen grains, and air bubbles. It is heated to melt visible crystals after being extracted from the honey comb by centrifugal force or gravity. It can be used in a wide variety of recipes.
  • Creamed honey is also known as whipped honey, spun honey, churned honey, candied honey, set honey, or honey fondant. This honey does not drip like liquid honey, has a smooth consistency and can be spread like butter. This is because the crystallization process has been controlled very precisely. Crystallization lightens the color of honey, but does not affect the taste and nutritional benefits. If you live in warm climate country, the creamed honey that you buy from the air-conditioned supermart may become darker in color and runnier when placed in room temperature.
  • Chunk honey is comb honey in a jar with liquid honey poured around it. It contains more propolis and pollen than extracted honey, so you can get more benefits from it.
