5 Natural Treatments Against Dandruff

Dandruff may not be life threatening, but it can be persistent and frustrating. It does not only cause an annoying itchy scalp, but also can hurt your self-confidence. Can you imagine these white flakes of dead skin always cling to your hair and shower your neck and shoulders?

But you may also consider other ways that can cure it naturally and inexpensively, using natural ingredients that are easy to find. These are some natural treatments to fight dandruff:

  1. Olive oil. Regular olive oil treatment can help loosen up stubborn flakes and make them easier to get out of your hair. You can heat around 3 oz. of olive oil in a saucepan. Dampen your hair and scalp, and then apply the warm oil to your scalp. Use a shower cap to cover your head. Wait for about 30 minutes, and then rinse your hair to wash out all of the olive oil. Do this twice a week and feel the difference.
  2. Aloe vera. It can help the regeneration of the scalp and keeping it healthy. You can take the inner part of this plant, which looks like gel, and then apply it to your hair. You can do this two or three times a week for a better result.
  3. Apple cider vinegar. It is full of nutrients that will balance the pH of your scalp. It can help to remove dead skin cells that clog follicles and retard the hair’s ability to grow. It can relieve an itchy scalp and dandruff. Apply the apple cider vinegar to the scalp and wait for 5 or 7 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry.
  4. Lemon and coconut oil. Lemon can help prevent excess secretion from the sebaceous glands, a condition that may cause dandruff. The coconut oil helps to keep the moisture and the natural shine of your hair. The mix of both ingredients can effectively reduce dandruff.
  5. Tea tree oil. Tea tree oil, which is extracted from the leaves of the Australian tea tree, has antifungal, antibacterial and antibiotic properties. Shampoos that contain tea tree oil are a natural way to control dandruff. You can find tea tree shampoos in most health food markets or similar specialty stores. However, you need to be cautious since tea tree oil may cause an allergic response in some people.
